After an October that saw no home matches, two losses, and a draw, the Nevada Coyotes were eager to get back to the winning side as they took on Vacaville Elite at Damonte Ranch High School. Led by a brace from Michael Cole, the Coyotes clinched a playoff spot with a 4-0 victory.
October started innocently enough with a scheduled home match against Napa Sporting SC. However, a scheduling conflict with Damonte Ranch forced the Coyotes to look for a different location for the match. While a location was found (a location that the team has played on no less than three previous occasions), the UPSL ruled that the field did not meet minimum standards and forced the Coyotes to forfeit the match to Napa Sporting. The technicality brought an end to the club’s 23-match Wild West unbeaten streak.
As a result of having to forfeit the match against Napa Sporting, the Coyotes went into its 2019 US Open Qualifying Match against International Portland Select on October 21 after not having played since a 3-1 victory over Vacaville Elite on September 29. The rust was apparent early on as IPS was able to score two goals within two minutes around the 18th minute to go up 2-0. The Coyotes fought valiantly throughout the match, but in the end, fell short 5-4. The loss eliminated the team from Open Cup competition.
A quick turnaround saw the Coyotes make the short trip to Sacramento to take on Azteca FC on October 27. Again, the Coyotes saw themselves in an early 2-0 hole. However, two goals of their own allowed the team to leave Sacramento with a 2-2 draw.
The final home match of the regular season had some added intrigue as it was announced that assistant coach Joe Lillie would be leaving the team and heading home to England. This time, the Coyotes did not allow itself to get into an early hole. Cole opened the scoring in the 19th minute and then Anthony Chinchilla added one in the 29th to give the Coyotes a 2-0 lead at intermission. Cesar Gervacio was able to tally one in the 61st, and then Cole competed his brace with an absolute banger in the 71st to give the Coyotes a clean sheet victory. The victory put the team back in first place in the Wild West North and clinched a spot in the Wild West Playoffs.

The Coyotes will close out the regular season on the road at Napa Sporting next Sunday, November 11. Kickoff is set for 4:30 pm at St. Helena High School. Even though both teams have already clinched the two available spots from the Wild West North for the playoffs, this match still has a lot of importance. The winner will be the top seed from the North and will most likely also have home field advantage throughout the Wild West Playoffs.
